The Alhambra and You

The International Order of Alhambra is a Catholic Order which promotes social, fraternal and intellectual associations through its
Caravans. It provides a practical means to form enduring fellowship and friendship among its members. The order of Alhambra has local units throughout the United States and Canada.
When you become a member of the Order of Alhambra, you become part of our family. With our members, you will be doing things for the church and community. We serve God’s Special
Friends, the intellectually disabled. The Alhambra Charity Fund provides grants for scholarship assistance and facilitates the education and treatment of the intellectually disabled.
The order of Alhambra provides grants for the intellectually disabled to attend a summer camp.
Through our Alhambra House Project, we provide assistance in establishing group homes for intellectually disabled adults.
The International Order of Alhambra was founded more than a century ago. In February, 1904, a small group of Catholic men met in Brooklyn, NY, to form the first Caravan.
The Alhambra is a palace in Granada, Spain, rebuilt by the Moors. It became the royal palace of Ferdinand and Isabella after the Christian Re-conquest in 1492.
The emblem of the International Order is a red castle, with a cross over a crescent representing the almost 800 years of Moorish occupation of Spain.
Our Historical Memorial Programs, which preserves and commemorates Catholic sites, has placed over 160 bronze plaques in North America. In 2017, the newest plaque was placed
in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Brownsville, Texas. These signify the significance and importance of the memorialized site.

Become a Member

In becoming a member, you receive personal reward with the intellectual disabled. You will feel love and satisfaction when you participate by: catching them at the finish line of a Special Olympic event, joining them in games at picnics and outings, or when you receive hugs from them and see their tears of joy when they just know you are there.
Discover how you can make a difference in this world. Times are tough and our schedules are busy but by making time for God’s Special Friends we will receive blessing that will change our lives forever. I encourage you to take advantage of this invitation and opportunity to visit our local caravan. By becoming a member of the international Order of Alhambra, you are making a commitment to enrich your life, as well as the lives of your family and those less fortunate in the  community. You will have the opportunity to make a difference and make your mark in this world. Our sincere gratitude for your planned participation with the Alhambrans and may the Good Lord continue to bless you always.
